OILING
Oiling is the first
and the most important rule of nay care. We recommend nut oil
because of its low acid value and thinness. Thin and low acid
oils do not form layers inside nay. Moreover, reed can absorb
these kinds of oil easily. Of course you can use some other oil
types like sesame oil, almond oil or corn oil.
Oiling Periods
A new nay should be
oiled once a week for the first 3 months.
After first 3 months,
it should be oiled twice o month.
Then, nay must be
oiled once a month after it is one year old.
We use PVC oil tanks
for oiling nays. If you do not have an opportunity for that, you
can oil your nay by pouring 3-4 teaspoon oil from baspare to
inside of nay. In addition you should cover holes and turn your
nay to make oil reach everywhere inside nay.
Some essence oils like
rose oil can be used for nicer smell but there is a certain
ratio:
4/5 nut oil, 1/5 rose
oil etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not
put anything inside nay to oil it or for some other reason. This
will harm reed and change the tune of nay.
PREVENT BENDING:
Nays can be bended
for some reasons although that warp does not affect your nay’s
tune it causes a disliked, ugly appearance.
To prevent bending;
--While leaving it on
a smooth place like a table, leave its baspare off the edge of
the table.
--Do not lean it near
a hot place like a radiator or a heater.
Note: Warps must not
be tried to be removed by inexperienced people. This may cause
serious problems which can never be fixed,, especially in nays
older than five years
Other Things:
Do not put your nay in
a closed box after you play it. Wait until its moisture is gone.
Do not leave your nay
in an airtight box for a long time.
Mould may exist in the
first node of your nay, just below the baspare. Do not use any
hard object to remove it. Washing, drying and oiling the nay
will be enough to get rid of mould. |
